you'll see that i'm not scared
While summer had fallen upon them quickly, filled with bountiful prey and warm nights, there was still no time for relaxation. At least not for Lien. As it was, the Healer laid inside the cool, shady dens, mentally going over the inventory of herbs and plants that had been gathered. It was a bountiful amount, with enough to last them through a few seasons, and some that could even be reserved until the winter. There was aloe vera and marigolds, camomile and buckthorn...she'd even found some milk thistle, which worked wonders on those who'd been poisoned. The stock was growing steadily by the day, and Lien had to admit that she was pleased. Adelaide had done her fair share of helping populate their stock as well, something that Lien was grateful for. She'd never had an apprentice before, and in the beginning she'd been wary, but Adelaide seemed to know what she was doing well enough, so Lien relented. It was nice, in a way, to be able to share her knowledge with someone who was willing to learn. She still knew very little about Adelaide, but it was more than she knew about the other pack members. She had socialized with them very little she realized, frowning at the plants that rested at her paws. Lien wasn't the most sociable of wolves to begin with, but regardless, they were a pack now, and she needed to become well antiquated with each of them.
Almost as if her thoughts had been projected, a howl suddenly rang out across Cougar Creek. It was undoubtedly Dexerous, for Lien would know the call of her alpha anywhere, and he was demanding that they join him. Organizing the plants back into the makeshift box that Lien had made by piling sturdy sticks atop one another against the flat stone wall, she turned and trotted out into the sunshine, stretching her legs. Taking a moment to lick any traces of dirt from her ivory pelt until she was spotless, Lien set off at a quick trot, golden eyes seeming to glisten in the sunlight. She found him near the plateau where he sat waiting, and she slowed her approach to a walk, dipping her head respectfully as she came upon him. She stopped a fair distance away from him, as was appropriate for her rank, lowering herself to her haunches as she flicked her triangular ears, listening for the approach of the others.
"Good morning," she said simply, her eyes on Dexerous as she spoke. Her voice was light and silky, but all the while her mind worked. Had he called them simply so that they could finally meet officially? Up until this moment, Lien had only caught passing glances of the others. She'd made no effort to stop and talk to them, for she was usually busy when she spotted them, but this time would be different. This time she would observe and take silent notes of each of them; it could only help, after all.

YOU'LL SEE I'M NOT SCARED
When the brute confirmed his name, and therefore his rank, Lien was relieved but not surprised. She’d heard enough of the prowling rex with amber eyes like fire to know it had been him from the beginning, but still her mind had whispered that she’d be a terrible embarrassment if she was wrong. Of course, she hadn’t been. Lien was thorough, always. It was unsafe to be anything else.
"You are very wise, Lien. Cougar Creek is fierce and incredibly ruthless. We only accept the utmost loyal and impressive of wolves among our ranks - but you're no fool, I can see, surely you've already figured that part out." His words were like silk, flowing like water, caressing her velvet soft ears. Unable to stop herself, she shivered, just slightly. While she’d never experienced true, deep emotions – like love, whether romantically or platonically – she was just as suspect to the lesser, more vain ones. As much as she prided herself on her intelligence, she was just as feminine as the next female, with the same lusty thoughts. Of course, a healthy dose of flirtation couldn’t hurt, but Dexerous was an alpha and Lien knew better than to overstep her boundaries. He would be her alpha first and foremost; she would serve and obey to the best of her abilities. So instead of cooing at him, she simply gazed up at him, eyes smoldering, a coy smile tugging at her lips as she dipped her head in acknowledgement of his miniscule compliment.
He went on to demand proof of her loyalty, his tone harder now as he explained what he expected of her. It was nothing that she hadn’t been willing to offer, anyways, so each condition he listed was met with cool acceptance. "Do you think you can handle that, sweetheart?" His voice had lost the clipped edge now, but the tone still lingered in Lien’s mind, filed away for future reference. She flashed him a small smile, dipping her head in acceptance. ”Gladly,” she responded, her voice like a soft purr. ”I’ll devote everything I have to serving Cougar Creek. I hope to always please you.” There was no trace of coyness in her tone now; she was serious, and she wanted Dexerous to know it. She would do everything asked of her, considering it her duty to do so. She would make a name for herself in Cougar Creek, and no one would ever doubt her again. She was fierce, intelligent, ruthless...and she would so gladly prove it, at all costs.
Craning her head to look around, she took careful notice of the area, knowing that it would be her home – forever. Leaving Cougar Creek was no longer an option once she’d pledged her blood, sweat, and tears to the pack. Turning her golden orbs back towards Dexerous, she flicked her ears as she spoke again. ”I’ve heard that there are others who sought out your pack,” she began, a wordless question in her eyes. She was not curious, per say, but it was practical to know who else she would be interacting with on a daily basis. ”Your numbers have grown swiftly. I dare say you’ll be unstoppable soon.” She could see it now: Cougar Creek thriving with loyal wolves, their ranks unmatched, with Dexerous victorious and triumphant in each of his struggles. Lien would do whatever job was assigned to her thoroughly and expertly; more than anything, she wished to see the ruler she followed successful in all of his endeavors, and it showed clearly in the depths of her blazing gaze.

YOU'LL SEE I'M NOT SCARED
The howl that answered her was deep, masculine, and full of warning. Involuntarily, Lien shivered. Not from fear – never – but instead with anticipation, her thoughts racing as she waited. Her head was held high, but not high enough to be considered a challenge, and her triangular ears were tipped forward, straining to hear him. He came into sight on the horizon after what seemed like forever, large and brutish as he approached. Everything about him screamed alpha, and Lien’s senses kicked into overdrive. She took a single step backwards before holding her ground, eyes alight with courage and a hint of submission as he came near enough for her to smell him. He was certainly a handsome one, there was no denying that, with a beautiful pelt and blazing eyes. He began to circle her, and Lien stood still, arranging her posture into what she had perfected years ago: submissive but not cowering, proud but not dominant.
"A pretty little thing such as yourself might be better off minding borders. It would be a shame to scar that pretty coat." His voice was smooth and dangerous, with a hint of something almost playful, a tad bit flirty. She tilted her head to gaze at him with a single golden eye, a sly smile tugging at her lips. There was a possibility that he would spring at any moment and hold to his threat of staining her ivory pelt, but he hadn’t yet, and she took that as a good sign. Still, she said nothing, only lowering her gaze when his pearly teeth snapped closed just inches from her nose. She did not flinch, nor did she show any outward sign of intimidation, despite the adjusting of her gaze. Not too much…but not too little. Careful now.
"Why are you here, trespasser? Why should I grant you my attention and not chase you off myself?"
Lien lifted her head, flashing her coy smirk at the brute. ”I’d heard rumors of Cougar Creek’s newest alpha, and I wished to see if they held true. You must be Dexerous.” She paused, letting it sink in that she’d done her research. She always did. ”I’m Lien, and I would like to join your ranks. Your pack is rumored to be fierce and ruthless; nothing would give me greater pleasure than to loyally serve Cougar Creek.”
Here she stoped, considering her next words before she spoke them. ”I am not a warrior by any means. I would rather use my wit instead of my brawn. I’m very skilled at healing; from the moment I was old enough to understand, I apprenticed my mother.” There was no pride or arrogance in her voice; instead there was only a cool, level sureness that spoke for the confidence in her own abilities. Lien was silent then, her body still. All she could do was wait for his response, and hope that he didn’t decide she’d make a better lunch than pack member.

you'll see that i'm not scared
She'd come here for a reason.
For so long, she'd debated her decision. She had been alone for many moons now, and she'd found it was something she didn't favor. Lien longed to belong, to prove her worth, to honor her pack and move up in the ranks. The grass crunched softly beneath her paws as she moved, her soft ivory pelt stark against the colors around her. She was like a ghost as she went, her steps light and springy, and her golden eyes flashed where the sunlight caught their magnificent color. With each step that she took, her doubts faded. She knew what she was doing, and she’d long ago learned that questioning her instinct was foolish. She was smart. She would survive; she would thrive.
She’d heard that Cougar Creek had a brute of an alpha, a male whose reputation far preceded him. She’d learned of him so quickly, but then again, Lien always did enjoy keeping up with the news. Almost instantly, she’d known that she would aim for Cougar Creek. If she was lucky, and if the alpha knew an aptitude for healing when he saw it, he’d allow her to take rank among the healers. Or, perhaps she'd land herself a position as a spy, or some upper-level intelligence of the pack if such a thing existed. Otherwise, Lien would be content with a lower rank, and with her time, she would become better until she ascended through the ranks. Her lack of empathy was surprisingly what had made her so gifted with her healing abilities; it was her ability to remain calm and cool as another living creature died beneath her, and nothing felt quite so powerful as seeing the light come back into their eyes. It made her feel as if she were playing god when she snatched them back from the brink of shadows, triumphant. But her intelligence...her intelligence was what she really prided herself over: her disdain for fighting, her quick wit, and her cunning along with her observation skills.
Lien stopped in her tracks as the distinctive scent of male assaulted her nostrils, glancing down at her paws. So this is where his territory begins. There was a moment where she stood still, breathing in the crisp spring air. Then, suddenly, she stepped forward. One paw into the marked territory first, and then another, and another. She moved slowly but surely, white ears pricked forward to detect the quietest sound. She did not dare venture too far into his territory, lest the alpha spot her and think she was sneaking around, but she did not stop at the border either. After a moment of walking Lien stopped where she stood, sucked in a deep breath, pointed her delicate muzzle towards the sky, and howled. It was long and loud, searching, edged with offering and absent of all challenge. Only when her lungs burned and her chest tightened did she drop her head, golden eyes peering hard across the horizon. He would either come, or he wouldn't. And if he did...how would he react? Perhaps Lien had underestimated his ruthlessness. Perhaps he would attack her on site, rip her throat out and leave her for the crows, but it was a risk that she was willing to take. She wanted nothing more than to run with the strongest pack, to represent a successful alpha. It was all worth it, in the end.

LIEN THE BASICS;; Full Name: Lien Gender: Female? Age: 4 years Breed: Arctic Sexuality: Hetero Pack: Loner, although she will likely attempt to join Cougar Creek. Would do well as a healer, or a hunter. Alias: Raven
DIGGING A LITTLE DEEPER;; Appearance: Picture included Personality:
Lien is the type of wolf who is cold and distant on the outside, and not much warmer inside. Having never received much affection as a pup, Lien in turn does not enjoy giving it. She is very peculiar about who is allowed to touch her, and while she will be as civil and polite as a situation will sometimes call for, she prefers not to form strong attachments to anyone. If Lien ever did come to trust and care for someone, she would gladly die for them, and would form an affection that could potentially border on devotion (or, as some snarkier wolves might say, slight obsession). Lien is extremely intelligent, and despite her large height and weight, she would prefer to use her brains to heal or hunt instead of fighting. Upon being faced with an altercation, she would fight only if forced to; she views those who constantly squabble and skirmish as lesser, more unintelligent beings. Lien has a small problem with how she views herself; she is very confident, both in her appearance and her abilities, and tends to have a god complex if her cockiness is not checked. Sharp and calculating, Lien has no issue with scheming if it will advance her position or benefit her in any way. While she is perfectly capable of surviving alone, Lien has always preferred pack life, where she can put her abilities to use and serve honorably. Many times she has been called "haunting", due to her stark white fur, vivid golden eyes, ethereal voice, and her habit of silently staring as if she could peer into one's very soul.
History:
Lien's parents were two lone arctic wolves who happened upon each other one cold winter evening. Neither of them had ever encountered another pure arctic wolf, besides their own family, and were pleased to have found each other. Not long after their meeting, it was decided that they would mate to produce pure, snow-white pups. The match was not one of love; neither of them truly cared for each other, and viewed the pairing as an act of duty. Lien was born one early morning in spring, alongside three sisters and a single brother. From the beginning, her parents were very stern with her and her siblings. Her father was stoically distant, and their mother only spoke to teach them how to fend for themselves. While her brother was taught to become a warrior, Lien and her sisters were instructed in the art of healing, and later when they were large enough, hunting. While Lien was quite good at hunting, she was exceptional at healing, and enjoying her lessons with her mother very much. Despite this, neither of her parents ever spoke an affection word to Lien. Later, when she was older, Lien would find herself confused by blatant emotion.
For the longest time, Lien remained with her family as she grew, behaving as if she were a member in a pack as opposed to a daughter or a sibling. Her sisters preferred to hunt while Lien was the sole healer of their group, often having to patch up her father and brother after altercations with other lone wolves. With each year that passed, Lien grew wearier and wearier with her company. She longed for a real pack, and a real home, where she could serve an alpha and honor her packmates with her knowledge. Eventually, Lien parted from her family, with no hard feelings and barely a word spoken, so that she could search for somewhere to truly call home.
THE FINAL TOUCH;; Role-play Experience: Experienced; 8 years Where did you find us? Advertisement Other Characters: Iskierka
